Cyber security company Cheq revealed in new data that on this Black Friday, bots and fake users accounted for 35.7% of all online shoppers.
Cheq’s insights come from a survey of 42,000 websites in North America, Europe, and Asia. Observed forms of fake traffic include malicious crawlers and crawlers, complex botnets, fake accounts, click farms and proxy users, as well as illegal users who commit e-commerce-related fraud.
Data shows that e-commerce sites are particularly vulnerable to attacks during the start of this year’s holiday shopping season. Researchers report that these sites are vulnerable to card attacks, data breaches, refund fraud, false registrations and other destructive activities.
